“let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.” - Matthew 27:42
We want Jesus to do things in front of us or for us and we declare that if he does those things then we will believe in him. Christ will take no such orders, he has given us the revelation of himself in the Holy Scriptures, they stand as a clear testimony, he makes no promise to perform specific requests from sinners so that they might believe in him on their own terms. Who are we to tell God how to reveal himself? Who are we to tell Christ he has not given us enough revelation for us to put our faith in him?
